hard water testing strips
My pool water turn green after adding bleach then turns back cloudy blue, what’s wrong?

For about 2 weeks now I have been trying to get rid of a bad case of algea. After alot of hard work I did manage to get the water to a cloudy blue color instead of green but that is where I am stuck at. I can’t seem to get the water to that pretty crystal clear state. So for several days now I noticed that when I add a gallon of bleach, my water turns green and stays that way for about 5 or 6 hours then it goes back to the cloudy blue. I also added more algeacide this morning. Does this mean I still have algea in the pool ?
My pool holds 7633 gallons of water and my readings this morning before adding the bleach were:
total hardness-200 Free Chlorine -0 ( has been there for days no matter how much bleach I add)
pH -7.5 Total Alkalinity – 180 and Cyanuric Acid is somewhere between 0 and 29, on the test strip it is a yellowish orange color that is not on the back of the hth 6-way test strip box.
Thanks in advance.

First, get yourself a good test kit. The test strips are not accurate. Also, bleach is exactly the same as pool chlorine and is frequently less expensive. You do need to add lots of it. With a Cyanuric Acid level of under 29, you will lose nearly all of your bleach after a few hours of sun. Plan on testing and adding bleach several times a day to keep your chlorine level up high enough to kill the algae.
