green cleaning supply list
How to convince school to use natural cleaning products?

I’m a member of my school’s Environmental Club, and currently we’re trying to convince the administration to supply the custodial department with non-toxic, biodegradable cleaning supplies instead of the ones that they currently use. Without knowing the exact brand that my school uses and the chemicals that it contains, are there any helpful resources that I could look into that would help persuade my school of the dangers of standard cleaning products and/or the advantages of “going green”?

My school is in Ohio, which means that the banned chemical list set out in “Jared’s Law” applies…if you know of any ingredient in major cleaning materials that is on this list, please mention that!

Many schools in the North East have gone with one of the major green products. The thing to look for with the chemicals in a Green Seal logo or a Greenguard logo.

The thing you have to remember is that disinfectants and sanitizers are registered with the EPA. The EPA will not allow any other certifications on the product if it caries the EPA certification number.

With the swine flu going around no school district in the country will give up disinfectants or sanitizers.

You may want to focus your efforts on getting ride of bleach and ammonia. Both these chemicals are outdated and have been replaced with much healthier substitutes.
